ABOUT US

Deep in the heart of Kiambu county (Central Kenya) is John Reuben Coffee Estate . The farm was initially established in the 1920s by the British settlers, before its current owners/family acquired it in 1967. The farm was renamed after the Late John Reuben Mbugua (1928 - 1991), who was the patriarch and vision bearer of the farm. His vision has been passed down through the generations, and today the establishment is run by his children and grandchildren.

John Reuben sits on 22 acres of pure SL28 & 34 coffee, which is the best quality coffee worldwide.

Coffee was introduced in Kenya in 1890 and John Reuben is among one of the oldest and best coffee farms in Kenya. Be it a small farm, the coffee quality is superb. This is mainly due to the fact that the coffee is purely organic and the altitude of the farm is about 2015mtrs/ 6611ft above sea level, which is great for producing the best coffee in the world.

Having farmed coffee for many decades, John Reuben brings you years of knowledge, experience and expertise in coffee farming to your cup.

Over and above coffee farming, there are also other activities on the farm that support it. We would like to offer you a once in a lifetime opportunity to come see and learn the process by which our coffee goes through, as well as our rich history, culture and heritage.

COFFEE NURSERY

Coffee is a major cash crop and among the top foreign exchange earners for the Kenyan economy. It is ranked 5th in contribution to GDP after diaspora remittance, horticulture, tourism and tea

The coffee industry in the country supports about 700,000 households, drawn from 525 Coffee Cooperative Societies and 4000 Coffee Estates. Through forward and backward linkages, the industry supports about 5 million people and subsequently contributes to food security, employment and Kenya households' welfare.

With that in mind, and the growing demand for coffee farming, John Reuben Coffee nursery offers seedlings for new and established coffee farmers. We currently have SL28 & SL34 (they are Bourbon hybrids), which are the main varieties in Kenya, and give Kenyan coffee the distinctive winey blackcurrant notes.
